Work starts on new flatlet extension at Cygnet Hospital Derby

Building work has begun on a new three-bed flatlet extension to Cygnet Hospital Derby’s Wyvern Unit. The work is progressing well and we envisage admitting the first service user on 3rd February 2015. The purpose of the flatlets is to further extend the Male Care Pathway at Cygnet Hospital Derby by allowing service users to try out supported accommodation prior to discharge therefore decreasing re-admission rates.

The flatlets are large single bedrooms with their own sitting area. A kitchenette and shared lounge will be available for the sole use of the three occupants. Controlled entrance separate to ward entrance using video phones will be in place also.

“The addition of these three flatlets will mean the quality of discharges from Wyverrn Unit will further increase and enable us to more accurately assess service user needs at such a key time in their care pathway.”Mark Varney, Hospital Manager
