Cygnet Wast Hills wins prestigious award

Cygnet Wast Hills, our award-winning Outstanding rated specialist autism high dependency complex care service in Kings Norton, has won another prestigious award, hailed as a “shining example” of support and praised for helping those it supports to achieve “excellent outcomes”.

The accolades came as Cygnet Wast Hills received the Great Autism Practice Award for the second time at the recent National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2018 for England and Scotland. Wast Hills previously won this sought-after award two years ago.

Judges at the prestigious awards called the team a “shining example of a team with a shared passion and an individualised pathway to support people at the most difficult time, through innovative, inclusive practice to achieve outstanding outcomes.”

Cygnet Wast Hills received the award for their work to stay at the forefront of autism care through the creation and delivery of innovative ideas, as well as encouraging staff to devise new initiatives to improve the quality of life of those they support.

These include the training of local emergency services and schools to enhance their autism awareness and improve their communication and engagement with people with autism.

Cygnet Wast Hills have signed up to national initiative `STOMP’ (Stopping the Over-Medication of People with a learning disability, autism or both), which has seen huge benefits for those supported at the service. Through this initiative there has been a reduction in both the number of people on medication and dosage, while two people have been supported to be entirely medication free.

The team at Cygnet Wast Hills consistently provide absolutely fantastic, ground-breaking and effective care and support for everyone who uses the service. We are so proud of this fantastic achievement, well done to the whole team.
