Dr Tim Exworthy joins the team at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Tim Exworthy who has joined the team at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage as a consultant forensic psychiatrist.

Tim trained in forensic psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital/Institute of Psychiatry and has been a consultant for over 20 years, firstly for five years at Broadmoor Hospital. He has also worked in medium and low secure settings, as well as on a mental health rehabilitation ward. His experience also includes working as a consultant in the NHS and for a mental health charity as well as in the private sector.

Tim has a long standing interest in mental health law and completed a Master’s degree in the subject in 2005. Since then he has been a member of the Department of Health’s Steering Group reviewing the latest revision of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice and is the only psychiatrist member of the Mental Health and Disability Committee at The Law Society.

Tim was the chair of the Special Committeee on Human Rights at the Royal College of Psychiatrists for six years until 2012. He is also a visiting senior lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London where he teaches on the forensic mental health MSc and has research interests on the interface between psychiatry, mental health law and human rights.
