On Saturday 12th October service users and staff from Cygnet Hospital Taunton were invited to attend Taunton Town FC’s match with Hayes & Yeading.

The invitation was extended by the club chairman and chief executive Kevin Sturmey. The match sponsorship was also allocated to Cygnet Health Care in order to help raise awareness of World Mental Health Day.

The match took place at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium. The ground was renamed back in July following a two year sponsorship agreement between Cygnet Health Care and Taunton Town FC.

In addition to raising awareness of mental health there was a collection at the match for a local foodbank which brought in a huge amount of food products needed by the Taunton Foodbank. There were also also presentations to Clic Sargeant and Sheppard Ward at Musgrove Park Hospital in memory of Mike “Chopper” Byrne. Mike was one of the club’s volunteers who sadly passed away last year at the age of 34.

The match finished in a hard fought 2-1 victory for Taunton. At the end of the match one lucky service user was given the opportunity to present a bottle of champagne to the Man of the Match, Taunton’s Shane White. The service user was so thrilled that he was still talking about it several days later.

Everyone who attended from Cygnet Hospital Taunton thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was a great day that showed the benefits of working closely in partnership with other organisations in the local community.

“We have had great interaction with Cygnet already in the first three months and we have lots planned for the future to cement what has already been a proactive partnership. This is one of the best partnerships I believe the club has ever had.”Kevin Sturmey, Chairman, Taunton Town FC

We would like to thank Kevin and all the staff at Taunton Town FC for their warm welcome and look forward to many more successful days in the future. Up the Peacocks!
