Supporting residents at Gables

The team at Gables, our specialist residential home in Colchester, have been working hard during the pandemic to ensure residents are able to keep in touch with family members and even enjoy holidays away.

One resident had picked where she wanted to go for her annual holiday and had chosen which staff would go with her. The holiday was originally booked for May 2020 at the Haven holiday park near Great Yarmouth. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic the holiday was cancelled.

The team were keen to support her to still enjoy a holiday so, once it was possible, the holiday was re-booked. Despite some restrictions still being in place the holiday was a great success with the resident hoping to return again next year.

Another resident has been used to having regular contact from his sister and brother-in-law who he has a fantastic rapport with. Due to the pandemic his sister has been unable to visit Gables, however contact has continued via video and telephone calls.

When his sister recently purchased a camper van the team at Gables helped organise for him to visit her at Millennium Park. Brother and sister really enjoyed seeing each other and having lunch together. The team are hoping to organise more trips out again for him to see his sister in her camper van.

Gables is a 7 bed specialist residential home for adults with learning disabilities, associated complex needs and who may have behaviours that challenge. The home provides a longer term placement for people who require a supportive home, with round the clock care.
