Supporting individuals safely during lockdown at Thistle House

The Thistle House team have been getting creative to keep the activity timetable exciting for the residents at the service. Under the Covid restrictions they’ve been unable to do some of the community activities that they would usually be doing, and so the team have come up with some site based fun instead!

On Wednesday mornings there is a healthy cooking and baking club which the residents enjoy attending. So far one of the favourite bakes has been cheese twists and whilst the weather has been chilly the healthy soups have been popular. They also open up a tuck shop on a Thursday as a way to promote money and budgeting skills.

On Friday mornings there is a communication group alongside the speech and language team where Makaton is being taught, all of the residents have their own Makaton dictionary to take to the group each week.

Last week upon suggestion from one of the team, they all learnt together how to make candles and soaps for Mothers Day. One of the residents said “It was great fun and the soaps smell great!”

Although the team is looking forward to getting back to the community gardening and baking groups, the staff and residents are really enjoying trying out all the new activities.
