Cygnet Hospital Sheffield’s Spencer Ward has scored 94% in a review by the Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services. Spencer Ward, a low secure service for women, achieved 100% ratings in three of the areas assessed, these were, ‘Physical Security’, ‘Procedural Security’ and ‘Safeguarding’.

These scores are the result of a peer review visit to the hospital on 3rd May 2017. Initial feedback from the Quality Network review identified the following areas as key achievements:

  • The service has proactively worked to improve links with community organisations.
  • There is a strong ethos of leadership and patient-centred care. It is evident that staff take pride in their work.
  • The service received extremely positive feedback from carers regarding the recent family day held at the service.
  • There are good physical health monitoring systems in place and some nursing staff are dual trained.
  • The review team also praised the range of displays promoting patient artwork as well as information on the mental health act.
