Retaining and valuing staff at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage

Cygnet Hospital Stevenage hosted its first ‘Employee Retention Day’ to bring staff together and showcase the benefits, training, rewards and opportunities of working at the hospital.

Over 80 people dropped-in to event where they were able to visit different stands and find out about:

  • the numerous training opportunities on offer from Learning & Development (L&D)
  • talk to colleagues about career pathways
  • hear about the excellent rewards & benefits available to Cygnet staff
  • learn about Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU)
  • meet the regional PMVA team to discuss reducing restrictive practices
  • explore opportunities with the OT and psychology teams.

The event was attended by colleagues from across the hospital who came together to show support.

The day was a great success with 40 clinical staff expressing interest in extra training courses, two volunteers for the FTSU Ambassador role, two people signing-up to be Reducing Restrictive Practice champions and an increase in applicants for vacancies at the hospital.

Rewards and Benefits attracted lots of positive attention with people sharing the benefits they enjoy.

Hospital Manager, Suzie Adam, said: “We have recruited a lot of new people in the past year and we want to ensure they stay with us. The retention day was a fun way to remind everyone of the various benefits and opportunities we have at the hospital. Making sure we value our people is vital to a strong staff team.

“It was informal so people could just drop-in, enjoy some food on their breaks and spend half an hour finding out what we have on offer. Our OT team were great and had an interactive stand which promoted OT as a profession and I was also pleased to be joined by some of our corporate colleagues too.

“It was great to inject some energy and interest into the exciting prospects on offer at our hospital and I would recommend it to other sites too.”

The event will now be held every year and if it’s National Chocolate Day (as it was this year) there will be free chocolate on offer too.
