Phoenix School gets stunning new wall mural

Phoenix School, the specialist provider of education for all young people admitted to Cygnet Hospital Sheffield, has been given a makeover with a stunning new wall mural courtesy of local artist Peachzz.

Earlier this year the school received a visit from an expert by experience who made suggestions about how the team could improve the environment to make it more vibrant and inspiring for the young people. As a result they looked into local artists who could support this.

Peachzz is a street artist based in Sheffield. She looks at nature and life contrasting with the concrete structures of urban spaces. She is a painter of large scale walls, her style is expressive, and she experiments with balancing a vivid & bold colour palette. She has painted all over the world and worked with organisations such as UPS, NME, ITV, The British Council, Unilever, Somerset House, Bombardier & The Wildlife Trust.

When the school first opened there was a competition for the young people to come up with a name. A young lady won with Phoenix School, she said the reason for phoenix was it was a bird that grew again, so was a good symbol of growth and recovery.

Peachzz took the phoenix theme as a starting point and created a mood board which explains her concept of the phoenix in more detail. Once the initial ideas had been approved Peachzz worked on the new mural over the October half-term holidays. The impressive results has left everyone delighted.

Katy Edmondson, Head Teacher at Phoenix School, said, “Peachzz did brilliantly to work with students and staff to design a bespoke mural which reflects the schools name and ethos of helping youngsters to follow their aspirations and rise up against all odds. As you can see it is an eye catching mural which provides a talking point for the hospital and is inspirational to our young people, especially our budding artists.”
