The team on Alvaston have been shortlisted for their work on Risk Management and Observations. Alvaston Ward is a specialist low secure service for women with a personality disorder and complex mental health needs. The service has long heralded working without the use of 1:1 observations, while using other creative and collaborative strategies to keep our service users safe. As part of a wider inclusive and empowering philosophy, the benefits to the service include a better service user and staff experience, negligible use of agency staff and a reduced length of stay.
“This is a whole team award for a service who have worked very hard to be creative and compassionate in the way we deliver care. It is wonderful to now have the opportunity to share that practise with others.”Dr Elizabeth Gethins, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Alvaston Ward
The Alvaston team will also be presenting their work at the Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services LSU annual forum on 16th June. The winners of the National Patient Safety Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester on 5th July 2016.
