New senior appointments at Cygnet Hospital Wyke

We are pleased to announce three new appointments to our senior management and clinical teams at Cygnet Hospital Wyke, near Bradford.

Richard Carroll has been appointed Hospital Manager, Sacha Barnes has been promoted to Clinical Manager and John O’Grady has been appointed Operations Director to oversee our mental health services in West Yorkshire. Together they share over 70 years of experience of working in a variety of mental health settings.

We would like to congratulate and wish them well in their new roles.

Richard Carroll – Hospital Manager

Richard is a Registered Mental Health Nurse with 29 years of experience across a wide range of NHS settings. After working in acute and community mental health, Richard spent 14 years working in a service for individuals with complex trauma.

After leading several system wide transformation projects to improve crisis care and develop inpatient psychotherapy services, Richard has more recently worked as a senior manager carrying a varied portfolio. This has included Intensive Home Treatment, Acute Inpatient, Crisis Services, Psychiatric Liaison, Psychology and Psychotherapy Services, Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) and Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT).

Richard is passionate about service user centred care, quality improvement and compassionate leadership. Richard will be taking up his appointment in early December 2019.

Sacha Barnes – Clinical Manager

Sacha qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 2011, and joined Cygnet Health Care as a preceptor nurse, initially working in low secure services. She has since gained experience across PICU, acute, older adult and rehabilitation services, progressing to Clinical Team Leader in 2014, before taking the role as PICU Ward Manager in 2016, and leading the ward to achieve successful accreditation with the Quality Network for Psychiatric Intensive Care Units.

Sacha is the Reducing Restrictive Practice Lead for the hospital, and has been involved in a number of quality improvement projects, both internally and externally.

Sacha has a keen interest in recovery approaches, both medication based and psychological interventions, to reduce service users length of admission. Sacha is highly motivated to ensure staff are supported and trained to deliver the highest standard of care at all times.

John O’Grady – Operations Director

John gained his nursing qualifications in Ireland before spending the next six years working in Australia. Since his return to the UK he has worked in the NHS as a Service Manager before joining Cygnet. He has extensive knowledge of managing services and maintains excellent working relationships with external services and staff.

His new role at Cygnet is to develop services in West Yorkshire and support staff in order to ensure a high quality service for service users and their families.
