We are pleased to announce that Cygnet Hospital Wyke’s new additional beds are due to open on 15th August 2016. This follows from an extensive build process that has encompassed the last six months at the hospital site.

The new bed capacity will mean five new specialist older adult beds for men on Fairfax Ward, while Branwell Ward, our male acute service will have four additional beds.

The development of these new beds across both services follows continued strong demand from our NHS commissioners and referrers, many of whom have struggled to access the current service due to lack of vacant capacity.

Branwell Ward, our acute ward for men, provides a robust environment for those who need an acute service. All referrals are responded to within 1 hour of receipt of the clinical information. As well as additional beds, the ward improvements will see the creation of an additional meeting room with full conference facilities including Skype and extra social space, allowing for more quiet spaces and more free movement around the ward.

Fairfax Ward, our specialist mental health service for older men, provides a locked environment for older males who may experience behaviours which challenge services. Additional environmental improvements on Fairfax include installation of additional ceiling hoists, fully accessible bathrooms for those whose mobility is affected, and the addition of a sensory and relaxation room. The space outdoors has also been increased.
