Rafik Hamaizia, Cygnet’s Expert by Experience Lead, explains how the video came to be filmed:
“As Expert by Experience Lead, I regularly visit our hospitals and catch up with service users about their experiences. During a visit to Cygnet Godden Green, I came across a very talented gentleman called David who is a musician. He showed me a song he made around 10 years ago called “Wish” and explained that this song meant a lot to him.
“David informed me that he always wanted to do a music video to the song and as I was so touched by it I vowed to make his dream a reality. Soon after I was able to secure a budget from management team at the hospital.”
David takes up the story:
“At first, when I was told I would be shooting a music video sponsored by Cygnet, I was really excited because I have waited for an opportunity like it. On the day I was a little nervous but the staff and the video maker present helped me overcome it.”
As Rafik relates the video shoot became a real event at the hospital:
“Being able to see the local community crowd around David to watch his performance and other service users ask him when the video is coming out and where they could purchase his music was really touching and brought the inner superstar out of him. Even the barber in the first scene insisted his trim would be for free on such a special occasion. This may be David’s first music video, but I think we can all safely say that it will not be his last.”
Indeed the whole experience has re-awoken David’s creative juices:
“I was really happy about the response that family, friends and staff members at Cygnet gave after seeing the video. So much so that it inspired me to record another song!
“I would like to thank Rafik, Douglas and the rest of the hospital staff so their support to make this happen.”
