Midlands Service User Forum a Real Success

Service users from Cygnet Cedar Vale, Cygnet Wast Hills, Willow House and Toller Road in the Midlands meet up every other month for a forum, which they named Helping Hands. The forum has proven to be a real success.

The forum, which has been running for a number of years now, encourages individuals to say how they feel about all aspects of the service they receive and we give them the tools and support to do this. Meeting up regularly is a great way for them to meet new people from other services and exchange ideas, they discuss topics important to them and take ideas and actions back to their own units.

At their last meeting in April, no doubt inspired by the beautiful weather, they talked about the gardens within their respective services and came up with some great ideas for what they would like to do and see in their gardens.

Part of the forum included decorating plant pots for them to use to plant sunflower seeds. They are having a sunflower growing competition and we are looking forward to see who can grow the tallest sunflower!

The service user forum is a really good initiative and gives service users a say in how we run these services. At the end of the forum everyone was asked “why do you like coming to the regional service user forum?” They responded by saying, “getting to know each other”, “trying new things”, “communicating with other residents in other homes”, “I like the food” and “the partnership between homes”.

Well done to everyone involved in making the meetings such a success.
