Menu Taster Day at Cygnet Brunel

On 6th January the team at Cygnet Brunel held a menu tasting afternoon, where meal samples were prepared for tasting to help decide on the forthcoming menu.

Staff, service users and families were invited to the event, and asked to complete a form afterwards to enable the team to select the choices for the new menu. At Cygnet Brunel there are a number of service users who are provided with diets in line with IDDSI diets – and it was important to identify new dishes that would increase the options available to them.

Collaboration took place prior to the day between the service’s Speech and Language therapists, a dietician and catering team. Cygnet Brunel also have a number of vegan staff and so wanted to make some tasty options for them too.

A number of dishes were prepared on the day, from cottage pie, butternut risotto, falafel, koftas, jerk chicken and beef ragu! A favourite of the day was the desert option of banoffee pie which was a huge hit, accompanied by a lemon drizzle cake.

“A huge thank you to everyone who came along and gave us some great feedback! It was amazing to see co-production at work in designing this new menu. Thank you to our catering team and speech and language therapy team for your help in bringing this together!”Stephanie Coxon, Hospital Manager
