Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke Sports Day

On Thursday 21st September 2014 Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke held an enjoyable hospital-wide sports day. The team organised sports competitions for both male and female service users. The women’s competition was in the morning and the men’s in the afternoon.

The mid-morning rain didn’t put the ladies off and there were no complaints as everyone took part despite getting soaking wet. The men were more fortunate as the sun came out and were able to enjoy a lovely afternoon – very different to the morning!

Events included a penalty shoot-out, archery, basketball shoot, tug o’ war, water filled balloon game, relay races and finally a staff egg and spoon race. In goal for the penalty shoot-out was Martin Horler the hospital’s Head of Psychology. The men’s tug o’war was one of the hardest fought competitions, and enjoyed by all.

There was some real skill shown by the service users in all events and there was a trophy for individual winners of each event. There was also a shield for the overall winning ward team. Congratulations to Nash Ward for winning the men’s shield and to Knightstone Ward for retaining the shields this year for the women.

There was positive feedback from both service users and staff. Thank you to the kitchen staff for providing refreshments throughout the day, and a thank you to everyone who played a part in making the two events so much fun.
