Highwoods Ward celebrates its 1st anniversary

Service users and staff at Cygnet Hospital Colchester’s Highwoods Ward recently celebrated the service’s first anniversary.

During the morning of the big day service users helped to decorate the ward with banners, balloons and posters. Furniture was moved, lots of food was brought in and a mocktail bar was set up.

Senior Staff Nurse and acting Ward Manager Katie Sciabica made an exclusive celebration cake. It was such a fine creation it was a shame to cut it but proved to be very tasty when it was!

Whilst a DJ mixed the music, service users and staff belted out their favourite tunes on the karaoke and busted out their moves on the dance floor. A great day was had by all.

Highwoods Ward is a 19-bed acute service for men. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

Since opening the ward has helped over 200 individuals on their journey to recovery. In the video below Ward Manager, Martyn Kemp, talks about the ward environment, the culture on the ward and the successful outcomes the service has delivered in its first year.
