First stage of improvement works at Cygnet Hospital Harrogate complete

We are pleased to report that on the 7th December work was completed on an upgrade to all sixteen bedrooms on Cygnet Hospital Harrogate’s Haven Ward. This marked the end of the first phase of a £350,000 upgrade to all 36 bedrooms in the hospital.

The main aim of the improvement works is to provide an environment which provides a warm and welcoming feel, whilst reducing potential risk to its lowest common denominator.

Each bedroom and bathroom on Haven Ward was gutted allowing the installation of wet rooms, replacing the more traditional bathrooms. All the wet room furniture, including, shower head, basin and toilet are anti-ligature standard. Toilet roll and towel dispensers are recessed removing potential ligature points and the plumbing and electrics can be remotely controlled removing deliberate flooding and self- harm through manipulating power points.

“Feedback on the improvements has been very positive. The patients love the new bedrooms and external visitors attending ward rounds have all given positive feedback as well.  It is pleasing to see such a high level of investment in the hospital and we look forward to continuing with the upgrades to the remaining bedrooms in 2016.”Martin Graham, Hospital Manager

The bedrooms have been fitted with queen size beds, anti-ligature wardrobes and are also equipped with bookshelves, work desks and bedside tables; all securely fixed to walls and floors. Ceiling lights are recessed reducing potential ligature points. All bedroom doors have been replaced with anti-barricade doors.
