Gledholt Mews and Coach House is a service in Huddersfield for adults with mental health needs or a personality disorder who have been able to progress through the hospital pathway and are looking for the next stage in their rehabilitation journey.
The service has been designed around individuals from Kirklees in partnership with NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board with the aim to help these individuals along their path towards independent living.
The full report (published on the CQC website) highlights many areas of positive practice, including:
- The culture within the home was a strength of the service. Service users and staff shared the same goals and values.
- The management team and staff worked together with other professionals to deliver outstanding care and support which service users were at the centre of.
- Service users were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.
- The service excelled in working with partners to closely involve them in service user’s care journey.
- It was clear service users were at the heart of their recovery and involved in meetings and their care planning. Staff actively encouraged this.
- The management team were innovative and responsible for initiatives such as the medication reduction programme and cooking masterclasses.
- Healthy eating was encouraged and kitchen skills were being taught to people living in the home. Service users were empowered to learn these and other skills to gain confidence and independence.

We have achieved an unprecedented outstanding in the well led domain, after being open just six months. We have a model of support that is there for all, residents and staff alike, and hopefully as we learn we grow.”
