Gables rated ‘Good’ by CQC

We are delighted to announce that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the care provided by Gables, a residential care home in Colchester for people with learning difficulties or autism, as ‘Good’ in all five areas – Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.

The report praised the person-focused care provided by staff at Gables, noting that care plans are ‘person centred’ and that ‘daily living was planned around people’s choices.’ The team was further recognised for the caring treatment of residents and were commended for ‘treating people with dignity and respect’, while paying close attention to peoples’ needs, choices and privacy and supporting residents to live ‘as full a life as possible’.

The CQC acknowledged efforts to promote independence among residents, noting that staff encouraged ‘choice and control, independence and inclusion’ and supported individuals ‘to have maximum control of their lives’, with care provided ‘in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests’.

Staff were further praised by residents’ families for tailoring community engagement and social activities according to people’s personal likes and preferences. The report also recognised efforts by the Gables team encouraging residents to maintain close links with the community created opportunities for individuals to maximise ‘their independence and lifeskills.’
