We are pleased to announce the appointment of Fiona Kennedy as Cygnet’s first Group Social Work Lead.

Fiona qualified with a Masters in Social Work in 2012 from the University of Hertfordshire. She worked for the NHS for eight years in various mental health settings including a crisis resolution and home treatment team, a community mental health team and a liaison and diversion service. She qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional in 2016. In 2017, she was promoted to Deputy Manager of the Liaison and Diversion Service in Bedfordshire, working with people who came into contact with the criminal justice system and are experiencing health and social care vulnerabilities.

Fiona initially joined Cygnet Health Care as the Head of Social Work and Safeguarding Lead at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage in April 2020. As part of her safeguarding role, Fiona has been developing close links with Hertfordshire’s Safeguarding Adults Team and Hertfordshire Police Safeguarding Adults from Abuse Team.

David Wilmott, Cygnet’s Director of Nursing, said, “I am very pleased to have appointed Fiona Kennedy into the Group Social Work Lead role. This is really important as it gives our social work colleagues real leadership within their profession.”

Fiona said “I’m delighted to be taking up the role of Group Social Work Lead. I hope to give greater prominence to the work our dedicated Social Work colleagues do at Cygnet and draw together best practice and innovation from our services across the country.”
