As part of their health promotion programme the team at Cygnet Hospital Taunton’s Swift Ward recently held an Eat the Rainbow Week.
Each day of the week staff wore colours coordinated with the colours of the rainbow, for example, on Monday staff wore red. Service users and staff spent time looking at fruits and vegetables that correlated to the colour of the rainbow, and the benefits they have on their health.
Both staff and service users really enjoyed the week. One service user fed back that before the week he did not realise how many different types of fruit and vegetables there were available.
At the end of the week the service users on the ward used the selection of fruits and vegetables to make smoothies and other dishes out of the resources they collected.
