Display walls at Cygnet Cedars inspire change and connection

In the past month Cygnet Cedars have created two lovely displays to highlight and raise awareness of two key topics: climate change, and how we support our service users from multicultural backgrounds.

Here, Amie Reeves, Speech And Language Therapy Assistant, explains what the team have been doing.

Climate Change display

We wanted to address a current issue happening across the world and help our service users to understand how they can help to save our planet and what will happen if we don’t make changes to how we live.

We are a Learning Disabilities (LD) service, so it was important that our service users had accessible information. The display was created by myself (Amie Reeves, SLT Assistant) and Support Worker, Raluca Serban.

After finishing the display we have had many compliments from staff and service users as well as external visitors. The wall is now a key conversation starter for all who walk through the corridors of Cedars.

Multicultural wall

This idea arose from our Hospital Manager, Hannah Wright. We have a diverse cultural mix of service users at Cygnet Cedars and we wanted to show that we welcome and support everyone.

Myself and Raluca felt it was important to provide accessible information on all key events in our service users’ and staffs’ cultures. We wanted to make the wall as bright and colourful as possible so that people were drawn to find out more about the different cultures.

We also included information about our Multicultural Network Lead, Simba, who is a Support Worker here at Cedars. Since completing the wall our service users and staff have all been stopping in the corridor to learn about different cultures and important events.

We look forward to our next project… keep your eyes peeled!
