Cygnet Views new Slimming Club

Cygnet Views, our high dependency complex care service in Matlock for women with learning disabilities, have launched a new Slimming Club.

The club was set up by therapy coordinator Helen Crane, not only to help individuals who may wish to lose some weight, but also to aid in their rehabilitation and help maintain their mental health. Life skills such as healthy cooking sessions are put on a 1:1 basis for the service users that request them and weekly exercise classes have been rolled out.

The ladies at Cygnet Views have taken to the club really well and are losing weight and improving their BMI score. In the last week they have managed to lose a combined 22.5lbs!

Complementing the Slimming Club is a new weekly Food and Mood drop in session run by nurse Katie Clough and activity coordinator Caroline Rowney. This is to help the service users make good food choices by researching different foods to help aid a good and positive mood.

Katie and Caroline purchased a range of foods and held a tasting session with information on the benefits of each food. This went down really well with not only the service users but the staff also, it was a really good turn out and everyone tried something new. Future plans include further tasting sessions and also teaching the ladies how to make their own healthy smoothie.
