Cygnet Thors Park celebrates National SCUD Day

The team at Cygnet Thors Park, our specialist high dependency complex care service in Essex for men with learning disabilities, recently celebrated National SCUD Day. SCUD stands for ‘Savour the Comic, Unplug the Drama’ and the day aims to encourage people how to live their lives with more laughter.

The day started gently with some fun and games mixing up some familiar faces. Staff had their photos taken, with each photo cut up into three pieces. The pieces were then mixed up and residents and staff had a great deal of fun combining the pictures into different faces.

One particularly fun activity was water balloon football where there were a few bursts along the way. There was also music, dancing, cake decorating, pizza making and some dressing up boxes. Service users and staff all got involved in putting on funny hats and wigs and even painting their faces.

Last but not least there was also a science session led by Occupational Therapist, Susan Wood. The science session was very much enjoyed as service users and staff made slime. There were lots of sticky hands which was a great way to gain some valuable sensory input while having lots of fun.

The day was a huge success and some of the activities were so popular that there are plans to do them again at the service’s Fun Day later on in August.
