Cygnet services hold Macmillan Coffee Mornings

Cygnet Hospital Maidstone and Cygnet Hospital Wyke were just two of our service who last week held a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone hosted a bake-off for both staff and service users to participate in. A judging panel consisting of Simba Kaseke (Hospital Manager), Chris Bridgeman (Clinical Manager), Alison McCulloch (Head of Admin and Operations), Sharon Gordon (HR Business Partner), and a service user, had some very difficult but delicious decisions to make.

There were six winners in total, with three based on taste and three based on presentation. All six winners received vouchers of their choice. The winner for taste was Thea Michaelas – MHA and Medical Secretary who baked a Cherry Bakewell Flapjack. The winner for decoration was Belinda Mawire – Ward Manager who baked a three tier cake filled with skittles. You can see some of the fantastic entries on the gallery below.

Once the winners were selected, the doors were open to all staff to come and buy the cakes, at 50p a slice. The catering team helped by also baking batches of cupcakes to donate to the sale.

A raffle was also held, with prizes donated by Hospital Manager, Simba, and the grand total raised from this and the bake sale was am impressive £263.22. A fantastic time was had by all, and the team were thrilled with how many staff and service users joined in!

At Cygnet Hospital Wyke, in addition to the coffee morning, activities included a raffle, bingo and guess Colin the Caterpillar’s sprinkles. The event was sponsored by Major Healthcare Recruitment with Nicky from Major Healthcare bringing games, prizes and cupcakes to the event as part of our community partnership.

A big thank you to everyone involved in both services for their efforts in contributing to and organising these events.
