Cygnet launching Safewards pilot project

We are delighted to announce that we will shortly be launching a new pilot project to introduce Safewards to our hospitals. The introduction of Safewards is part of Cygnet’s wider commitment to reduce restrictive practice.

We invited our wards to nominate themselves for the pilot and received 17 really high quality applications. Our expert panel – including Geoff Brennan, Executive Director of Star Wards and our Experts by Experience, Iris Benson and Wayne Saville, chose the following seven wards to be our Safewards pilot sites.

  • Litchurch Ward – Cygnet Hospital Derby
  • Littleoaks Ward – Cygnet Hospital Godden Green
  • Milton Ward – Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke
  • New Dawn Ward – Cygnet Hospital Beckton
  • Primrose Ward – Cygnet Hospital Bury
  • Sanctuary Ward – Cygnet Hospital Harrogate

The pilot project is being launched on July 7th when there will a workshop for the Safe Ward pilot leads. Each of the wards will also receive team and individual input and coaching to support the implementation of the Safewards model.

“We are really excited about this pilot, and if successful will be looking to roll out a second phase of pilots later this year.”Julie Kerry, Director of Nursing and Patient Experience

Safewards is an evidence based clinical model that introduces a number of interventions that increase safety and reduce coercion, improves relationship between staff and patients, resulting in fewer assaults, making wards more peaceful places.
