Cygnet Hospital Sheffield celebrates Children’s Mental Health Week

To mark Children’s Mental Health Week (2nd-9th February), the team at Cygnet Hospital Sheffield held five days of celebrations based on this year’s theme of ‘Find Your Brave’.

The young people at the hospital’s three CAMHS services (Unicorn, Griffin and Pegasus) worked hard all week with the full support from the nursing, multidisciplinary and education teams to find ways of being brave whilst also raising money for children’s mental health charity, Place2Be.

“I think brave week was a good idea. It got everyone working as a team and it made us think of all the reasons why we are brave. I enjoyed the group activities and the party.”E, Young Person

The celebrations started on Monday which was a designated PJ day. All staff and young people spent the day in their pyjamas for a small donation to Place2Be. On Tuesday there was a neon and glitter party where everyone wore bright colours and glitter paint – there were even some bright tutus!

“The whole week was lots of fun and I definitely advocate wearing pyjamas to work!Zoe Somers, Senior Support Worker

Wednesday was a ‘Be Brave, Where Blue’ day with staff wearing blue jeans to work. Thursday was a creative day with the young people making bravery shields and writing poems on the theme of bravery. The week concluded with a ‘Find Your Brave’ party.

During the five days daily activities were organised to encourage the young people to think about their own bravery and what being brave means to them. Every day a new question focusing on a different aspect of each person’s bravery was put forward to the young people in countdown to the bravery celebration party at the end of the week.

“In typical fashion, our CAMHS services went above and beyond to promote Children’s Mental Health Week, encouraging Young People and staff to find their brave. I’m very proud of what we can all achieve when working together.”Ali Curtis, Unicorn Ward Manager

The week was a big success with a fantastic party to finish on Friday. At the end of the week an outstanding £275 was raised for Place2Be. Well done to everyone involved!
