On Thursday 9th June, to celebrate Carers Week, Cygnet Hospital Godden Green held ‘Godden Green’s Got Talent’. The event gave service users from both the CAMHS and low secure services the opportunity to show off their talents and impress all the families, friends and carers who were invited.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face every day and most of all recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

The team at Cygnet Hospital Godden Green wanted to acknowledge Carers Week and the important role that they play in the recovery of service users so it seemed a perfect time to hold this event. Most of all though it was about spending time together and having some fun, with an added bonus of sunshine, a delicious BBQ, cakes and lovely company.

The day was a huge success, the sun shone brightly and we were fortunate to have many families attend to support the day. One mother even got up on the stage and sang the most delightful duet together with her daughter.

There was so much positive feedback from staff, visitors, families, carers and service users who all gave the day a resounding thumbs up. One service user said “I was thrilled to get an award”, another said “the atmosphere was amazing” and one family member’s feedback was “it was an amazing day, so relaxed, so enjoyable it was so nice to see everyone having fun.”

“I would like to thank the Carers team for organising such a great event. A big thank you goes to all the carers, service users and visitors who participated on the day. A final thank you goes to all the Godden Green staff team for working tirelessly in achieving such a successful event.”Danmore Padare, Hospital Manager

In support of Cygnet’s nominated charity selfharmUK a total of £67 was raised on the day from the cake sale and BBQ donations.
