Cygnet Hospital Godden Green achieve Safewards status

Cygnet Hospital Godden Green have successfully launched ‘Safewards’ across the hospital. Safewards is a model with 10 associated interventions designed to improve the safety of everyone in inpatient mental health wards.

The team have been working on implementing some of the recommended interventions over the past 6 months. In house training has been provided for staff, who have worked with the ward champions and service users to decide which interventions best suit the site.

The team decided to use the following interventions:

  • clear mutual expectations
  • positive words
  • know each other
  • mutual help meetings
  • calm down methods
  • reassurance and discharge messages

In order to support staff to keep the new ethos in mind, there are plenty of posters and reminders across the service, as well as flashcards on each key chain.

There are also posters in each ward sharing mutual expectation for staff and service users, a ‘hope tree’ mural on each ward, and a board with staff names and photos.
Well done to everyone at Cygnet Hospital Godden Green for working together on the Safewards project.
