The team first realised their potential for raising money for charity at the beginning of the year when service user’s set up a tuck shop to raise money for Cancer Research after a fellow patient lost his battle to cancer.
When asked which charity service users would like to support this Christmas they suggested the children’s cancer ward at the Queen’s Medical Centre. In addition to donating the money raised from the tuck shop it was decided to extend their fundraising to other activities as well.
These included a staff and service user sponsored walk around Dovedale in the Peak District. The group, some of them in seasonal attire, battled through pouring rain to complete the walk.
Other fundraising activities included holding a Christmas Jumper Day as well as raffle with prizes once again donated by both service users and staff. Everyone really pulled together the various activities managed to raise a combined £1050.
On Monday 23rd December members of the multidisciplinary team at visited the children’s ward at Queen’s Medical Centre to meet staff, find out more about what they do and to hand over the money they had raised.
