Cygnet Hospital Bury’s Elton Recovery College recently hosted a celebration of learning with an AQA accredited award ceremony.

Therapy staff and the AQA moderators have worked hard together to create courses for each of our Recovery College courses. These were then submitted to AQA in order to receive certificates for everyone involved. In total around 75 awards were given out on the day.

There was also a special award on the day called the ‘Rob Hartley Achievement Award’. This was given out in memory of staff member Rob Hartley who sadly passed away earlier this year. Rob was totally dedicated to the work of the Recovery College and it was an opportunity to reflect on the lives he had changed through his work.

The recipient of this award was a student that Rob had assisted through their recovery journey and prior to Rob’s passing had been coproducing a new French class for the students.

The college were privileged to have Carol Bannerman OBE and former Principal of Bolton College to assist in giving out the awards. At the end of the ceremony the students thanked Carol with a bunch of flowers and a Recovery College T- shirt, the students then voted her in as an honorary lifelong student.

Congratulations to all the students who received their certificates and thank you to Carol for giving up her time and to all the staff, including Rob, who have worked tirelessly to make Elton Recovery College such a resounding success.
