Cygnet Hospital Bury’s Elton Recovery College hold 2019 AQA Awards ceremony

Cygnet Hospital Bury’s Elton Recovery College recently hosted a celebration of learning with their latest AQA accredited award ceremony.

Our Recovery Colleges offer educational courses designed to provide increased understanding of mental health and support people through their recovery, promoting hope, opportunity and aspirations for the future. Service users are empowered to become experts in their own wellbeing and recovery.

Each of the Recovery Colleges within Cygnet Health Care is unique and has been developed in co-production with the service users at each of its secure care services.

The Elton Recovery College AQA Awards Ceremony celebrated and recognised the achievements of students and staff for all the work they have done in 2019. Over 100 certificates were presented by Victor Takadiwa, Cygnet Hospital Bury’s Hospital Director. The certificates were presented to students in recognition of their gaining new skills as well as the progression of these skills.

The event also celebrated the contribution of staff with recognition awards. The awards were requested by students for the skills, knowledge and support the college’s tutors provide. These were awarded to Arwen Taylor for her creativtity and Geoff Yates for showing that even experienced trainers can learn a new skill and use that experience to help and support others to have a go (in Geoff’s case crochet and sewing).

Last but not least housekeeper Margaret Mutumbirwa was presented with a lovely bunch of flowers to say a big thank you for keeping the college environment clean and for her positive, friendly and happy approach to both staff and students.

Congratulations to Arwen, Geoff, Margaret and especially to all the students for their hard work and achievements over the last year.
