Cygnet Hospital Bury’s 5th Annual People’s Festival

On Thursday 20th July Cygnet Hospital Bury held its 5th annual People’s Festival for the hospital’s adult services. Service users, staff, family and friends were all invited to join together to take part in the fun.

The event was planned via a series of monthly meetings with service users and staff. Service users were heavily involved in choosing which activities should be included on the day. They also assisted staff in setting up and dressing the festival tent.

On the day the main tent was the scene for a number of activities that included a photo booth, face painting, a tombola, giant jenga and a craft stall. Popcorn, ice cream and candy floss were also provided in addition to a BBQ.

Outside there were further fun games and activities including a ‘Beat the Goalie’ competition and the chance to throw a wet sponge at staff. One of the most popular activities was a ‘Bucking Bronco’ where service users and staff took turns to try and stay on for as long as possible.

A stage was also set up for musical entertainment. Service user DJ’s provided the music and there was also a performance of the Greatest Showman’s ‘This is Me’ by the ladies from the hospital’s deaf and hearing services. One of the parents also joined in by taking to the stage and singing Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder of You’.

The event was a huge success with the many smiling faces a testament to what a great day it had been. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making it such a special day.
