Cygnet Hospital Bury celebrates Children’s Mental Health Week

Last week it was Children’s Mental Health Week (1st-7th February) and the CAMHS services at Cygnet Hospital Bury all celebrated the week with a variety of different activities.

The team on Primrose Ward used the week to encourage the young people to reflect on on how they feel being an inpatient on a Child and Adolescent unit during a pandemic. This was done via a group art project featuring different coloured hands. The green hands reflected positives feelings and the red/yellow hands reflected negatives feelings. All the young people and staff got involved and it was very helpful for the young people to learn that staff have also experienced difficulties during the pandemic. The team also held a socially distanced party for everyone to enjoy at the end of the week.

On Mulberry Ward, the young people spent time getting creative in line with this year’s theme of ‘Express Yourself’. There were Henna and glitter tattoo’s, workshops around the positive and negatives of mental health, how we express ourselves, why we express ourselves and the importance in being able to express ourselves. Everyone from the young people to the nursing team to the MDT got involved and enjoyed expressing themselves.

At Wizard House the young people and staff team collaborated on a collage on Recovery and also completed a positive quotes window. Everyone got the opportunity to express themselves by getting involved in the sessions.
