Cygnet Hospital Bierley wins Excellence for Promoting Good Mental Health in the Workplace award

Congratulations to the team at Cygnet Hospital Bierley who have won the ‘Excellence for Promoting Good Mental Health in the Workplace 2019’ award at the recent Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) Awards.

The award was won for the hospital’s Relaxation Workshop which was co-developed and co-produced by Lacey Johnson (Assistant Psychologist) and a service user. On the day of the awards Lacey gave a presentation to the judges for the awards. The judges praised the presentation for its ‘warm’ and ‘energetic’ manner. They particularly liked how the Relaxation Workshop had facilitated joint attendance by allowing both staff and service users to attend.

The team from Cygnet Hospital Bierley were also presenting finalists in two other categories at the awards. They were finalists in the APT Award for Excellence in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy 2019 for the Advanced DBT skills group held on the hospital’s specialist personality disorder service, Bowling Ward. The group is facilitated by Dr Rachel Newton (Clinical Psychologist) and Dr Rebecca Szlachcic (Clinical Psychologist).

The presentation to the judges was given by Dr Rachel Newton and the judges highlighted how they admired how the group leads had supported service users to co-facilitate aspects of the group. Judges were also impressed by how facilitators supported service users to maintain motivation to attend in a secure setting.

The team were also up for the APT Award for Excellence in RAID 2019 for their implementation of the RAID approach across the hospital’s low secure services, Bronte and Shelley Ward. The implementation of the approach was a multidisciplinary team effort, presented at the APT Awards by Samantha Moore (Forensic Psychologist), Emily Sutcliffe (Registered Mental Health Nurse on Bronte Ward) and Sana Hussain (Registered Mental Health Nurse on Shelley Ward). The RAID presentation was praised for its structure, and the implementation of the approach described as ‘beautifully planned and executed.’

Well done to Lacey and the rest of the team for their hard work and successes with the above projects.
