Cygnet Hospital Bierley shortlisted for three APT Awards

Congratulations to the team at Cygnet Hospital Bierley who have been shortlisted as finalists for three Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) Awards.

The hospital has been shortlisted in the following categories; Excellence in Fostering Good Mental Health in the Workplace, Excellence in RAID and the Excellence in DBT.

The ‘Excellence in Fostering Good Mental Health in the Workplace’ nomination is in light of the success of the hospital’s Relaxation Recovery College course. The course was co-produced and co-delivered by the hospital’s Psychology team and a service user from Bowling Ward. The course was well-attended and positively evaluated by both service users and staff.

The ‘Excellence in RAID’ nomination recognises the work put in by the teams on Cygnet Hospital Bierley’s two low secure services, Bronte Ward and Shelley Ward, to launch and implement RAID. RAID (Reinforce Appropriate, Implode Destructive) is a positive approach to working with extreme and challenging behaviour. RAID focuses on developing appropriate (‘green’) behaviour that will overwhelm challenging (‘red’) behaviour.

Last, but not least, the team at Cygnet Hospital Bierley are aiming to be awarded the ‘Excellence in DBT Award’ for the third year in a row.

Finalists are attending a special event at the APT headquarters in Leicester on 24th September where they will be given the option to present to a panel of judges who will then announce the winner.
