Cygnet Hospital Beckton’s Music Festival

The Occupational Therapy team at Cygnet Hospital Beckton, our hospital in East London for women with complex mental health needs, recently hosted their annual Music Festival. Service users and staff were very keen for the popular event to happen again following the success of last year’s event.

They invited two musicians who entertained them for the afternoon with their guitar, saxophone and soulful voices. Service users attended from all four wards alongside members of the staff team.

“It was the best event I have ever experienced in hospital, I really enjoyed myself.”Service user, Cygnet Hospital Beckton

The garden was decorated with bunting and musical instruments made by service users from Bewick and Hansa Ward. A huge flower wall, made by New Dawn ward, was used as a backdrop for photographs. Other decorations included brightly coloured bundles of balloons and even a bubble machine.

On entry service users were given a brightly coloured wristband and were offered some lovely body gems, glitter and even temporary tattoos to really give it the festival feel!

Also on offer was homemade fruit punch, snacks and ice pops as the sun was shining throughout.

“Our aim was to really bring the “festival vibe” to Cygnet Hospital Beckton as, for many, this was their first experience of live music. It was so humbling to see service users engage for such a long time, socialise with others, sing, dance and smile throughout.”Amy Gibson, Occupational Therapist, Cygnet Hospital Beckton

Thank you to everyone at Cygnet Hospital Beckton for making the day a success.
