Cygnet Hospital Beckton supporting ‘Cycle Around the Globe’ for World Suicide Prevention Day

Today it is World Suicide Prevention Day and to mark the event the team at Cygnet Hospital Beckton are participating in the ‘Cycle around the Globe’ challenge to collectively raise awareness about suicide.

One person dies every 40 seconds by suicide and up to 25 times as many again make a suicide attempt. There are also many more people who have been bereaved by suicide or have been close to someone who has made an attempt. The Cycle Around the Globe aims to raise awareness of the risks of suicide and to fund suicide prevention activities.

The Occupational Therapy team at Cygnet Hospital Beckton are encouraging service users and staff to contribute any distance, on any route, either by cycling or walking and to email in photos or to keep a written log of their miles. This event will take place between the 10th September and the 10th October 2019 and everyone who is taking part has been given a distance tracker form.

Donation boxes have been placed around the hospital for anyone to contribute to. This event and campaign is about finding mechanisms to spread the message exponentially into areas where there is limited knowledge of this issue.

Best of luck to everyone at Cygnet Hospital Beckton in clocking up the miles as part of the challenge.
