Cygnet Health Care Promotes OT Week

From 7-13 November 2016 it is Occupational Therapy Week. The theme for 2016 is to promote occupational therapy as a career. Occupational therapy is a science degree-based, health and social care profession, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. The need for occupational therapists is growing, and this is being recognised nationally.

Occupational therapy takes a whole-person approach to both mental and physical health and wellbeing, enabling individuals to achieve their full potential. An occupational therapist can identify strengths and difficulties you may have in everyday life, such as getting to the shops, and will help you work out practical solutions. They can work with you to identify goals that can help you maintain, regain, or improve your independence by using different techniques, changing your environment, and using new equipment.

In Cygnet Health Care, the role and contribution of occupational therapy is valued to ensure the delivery of recovery based care. Occupational therapists work within multidisciplinary teams to plan and deliver high quality care. This enables occupational therapists to ensure occupations are interesting, meaningful and motivating for individuals or group programmes.

Service users have described the role of occupational therapist as:
‘They teach me life skills like crossing roads and managing my money’
‘They help me plan my day’
‘They support me to gain work skills’
‘They provide meaningful and purposeful things for patients to do’.

During Occupational Therapy Week 2016 our OT teams will be holding local events to promote and celebrate the profession.
