Cygnet Cedars’ Graduation Day 2020

Cygnet Cedars recently hosted their first Graduation Day to celebrate the achievements of service users who have participated in the Cedars Learning Pathway.

Cygnet Cedars is a 24-bed high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities, associated complex needs and who may have behaviours that challenge. The service is also an AQA Unit Award Scheme registered site and has been offering a wide range of courses certified by AQA over the last 18 months in Occupational Therapy groups.

Both the Occupational Therapy Assistants at Cedars have led on the courses and are AQA moderators so can submit evidence for courses completed. Visiting tutors have also provided courses too.

Some examples of topics covered are: furniture up-cycling, IT skills, gardening, cooking, community living, budgeting and returning to work. 16 service users came to the ceremony to collect their certificates.

“It was really well planned. It was really nice to do something to celebrate our service user success especially after a tough couple of months. It was nice to see them with a smile on their face, proud of their certificates.”Amie Reeves, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Since the launch of the Learning Pathway:

  • More than 25 courses have been delivered
  • At least 75 certificates were given out at the ceremony
  • 28 service users have participated in total

After the ceremony, a delicious buffet was enjoyed by all, followed by a fundraising tombola and bake sale, which raised £103 for MENCAP. The day was closed off with a fantastic quiz which was written and hosted by a Cedars service user.

“It was really good, a really nice day, I liked wearing the hats.”Service user

The Cedars team want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen – it really was a fantastic day!!
