As part of a nomination process run at the end of 2016, a number of charities were proposed by staff in all Cygnet hospitals, and Place2Be was chosen following two rounds of extremely close voting.

Place2Be is the leading national children’s mental health charity in schools. The charity provides emotional and therapeutic services in primary and secondary schools, building children’s resilience through talking, creative work and play. The charity also hosts the annual Children’s Mental Health Week which begins next week on 6th February.

Cygnet’s Chief Operating Officer, Nicky McLeod said, “We’re delighted that our staff have chosen this worthy cause as our nominated charity for the year. Over half of all mental ill health starts before the age of 14 and there is growing evidence to suggest that children are less likely to suffer from serious mental health difficulties later in life if they receive support at an early age.”

“The money raised across Cygnet over the course of the year will go towards Place2Be’s support work in schools including individual and group counselling sessions for children and much needed therapeutic support for parents and carers.”

Cygnet will be supporting all its hospitals to hold fundraising activities locally to raise funds for this important charity. Fundraising activities that are already in the pipeline include a team from Cygnet Hospital Harrogate who will be walking the 53-mile Nidderdale Way and a member of the Head Office accounts team who is planning on cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
