Cygnet Hospital Sheffield Summer Fayre raises money for Place2Be

The young people on Cygnet Hospital Sheffield’s Peak View ward recently hosted a summer fayre to raise money for the children’s mental health charity, Place2Be.

Place2Be, Cygnet’s nominated charity for 2018, is the leading national children’s mental health charity in schools. The charity provides emotional and therapeutic services in primary and secondary schools, building children’s resilience through talking, creative work and play.

The event, which was held on 5th July, was originally proposed by the young people at a community meeting in May. They subsequently designed the event, organised and facilitated every aspect of it.

They wanted it to be as inclusive as possible so they requested additional ear defenders so those who were noise sensitive could also enjoy it. They baked vegan goods and created LGBT book marks to sell. They also invited all staff and family members to attend. In addition they allocated staff members to each young person who led and hosted a particular stall/ activity to support the young people.

Activities they organised included a hook a duck, tombola, face painting, a nail bar, a bake sale, a mocktail bar, a waffle stand, name the bear and guess the amount of sweets.

The day was an absolute success. Everyone had an amazing time and through their efforts a fantastic £284 was raised for Place2Be.

Thank you to everyone who took part, attended and donated and a huge well done to the young people for organising such a wonderful day.
