Charity success for Cygnet Aspen House service user

Laura, a service user at Cygnet Aspen House has achieved great success with two fundraising events that she has independently organised over the last few weeks.

For Children in Need, Laura offered to make hot drinks for her peers and staff all day for a small fee, as well as charging for biscuits and cakes and being in non-uniform, this raised £73.49p in one day.

Next up, she wanted to go bigger and better than before and set herself a target of raising £100 for Save the Children on Christmas Jumper Day. In the week leading up to the event Laura took orders from both staff and peers for who wanted a bacon sandwich cooking on the Friday, for a small fee. She also enlisted the support of four fellow peers who helped her bake cookies, buns and scones to sell on the day.

Around lunchtime Laura had already raised £79 so raised her target to £150, and by 4pm she had smashed this by reaching an incredible total of £157. The afternoon saw more cake sales, drink sales and soft toys being sold. However, she wasn’t quite finished and continued to raise money into the night from the night team and into Saturday from the weekend team.

“Laura cooked by far the best bacon sandwich I have ever tasted, in fact, everyone has said how amazing the bacon sandwich was!”Staff member, Cygnet Aspen House

In total Laura raised almost £300 across the two events, a superb achievement. She has already set her target on her next event in the New Year where she would like to raise money for Thornberry Animal Sanctuary & Barnsley Animal Rescue Centre.

Well done Laura!
