Canute Male Choir visit Tabley House for Remembrance Service

As the world tries to return to the “new norm”, residents at Tabley House Nursing Home have enjoyed one of the most missed activities, live music. Staff and residents were delighted to welcome the Canute Male Choir to the home for a Remembrance Day service. Many of Tabley’s residents lived through the Second World War, and some even fought for our country, thus Remembrance Day is an extremely important time of year.

Following full risk assessment and adherence to government guidance, this is the largest community event that Tabley has hosted since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. Managers and the activity team helped to host the event ensuring all the correct Covid safety measures where followed. Although social distancing and lateral flow testing was in full swing it did not stop the residents from having a great evening.

The choir performed songs from the First and Second World Wars along with some old time favourites. They were loved by all, with many singing along to their favourite tunes. The performance was even more special as one of the singer’s wives had been a resident at Tabley House this year for a brief period of respite. He was extremely excited to perform at Tabley as one way of giving back for the wonderful care his wife received during her time with us.

“It is so fantastic to have live performers back at Tabley House. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it just feels amazing to be moving forward towards a new norm here at Tabley. I would like to thank all the staff who all pitched in to help make the event the success it was. It is challenging to host a large event like this, but it is well worth the work for the resident’s enjoyment.”Karen Lynskey, Registered Manager

Everyone at Tabley would like to thank the Canute Male Choir for their performance and for visiting Tabley House. Having enjoyed themselves in their ‘first performance’ since Covid they have agreed to come back again nearer to Christmas for a carol service.

But this has not been the only event this week for Remembrance Day. The activity team assisted the residents in making beautiful Poppy art, with personalised messages of remembrance. These have been placed up around the home for all too see.
