Building Relationships: A service user’s story

Today, as we mark the 2016 Mental Health Awareness Week, Cygnet Health Care would like to introduce a film which highlights the importance of positive, communicative relationships between service users and those who support them in services.

In the film, a service user from Cygnet Hospital Bury’s specialist deaf psychiatry services tells his story – he wrote and directed the script which you see signed by a member of the therapy team, and hear interpreted verbally.

The story’s message is one of communication and communicative relationships being at the heart of placing service users at the centre of their care, leading their care journey and enhancing their experiences of services to maximise positive outcomes.

“This story is an important reminder of how vital it is to help people who use services to find and use their voice to influence their care. Central to that is forming positive, enabling relationships – in this case, where people literally speak the same language.”Julie Kerry, Director of Nursing and Patient Experience
