‘Be Frugal, Feel Fabulous’ at Cygnet Aspen House

The therapy team at Cygnet Aspen House, our high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for women in Mexborough, have recently organised a hugely popular ‘Be Frugal, Feel Fabulous’ challenge for service users.

The aim of the challenge was to buy a full outfit and accessories on a budget of just £5. A group shopping trip was organised with the ladies taking time to pick outfits, check sizes, and socialise with their peers whilst also looking for a bargain.

It was a really positive experience as the ladies complemented and helped each other choose an outfit. After returning to Cygnet Aspen House each service user had a hair and makeup session and then a photo shoot in their new outfit.

“I am frugal and really enjoy ‘grabbing a bargain’ so thought I would help the ladies learn some different techniques when shopping for themselves. Since the initial shopping trip the ladies have asked to go to the charity shop each pay day and have bought further outfits now realising they don’t have to spend a fortune to look and feel good!”Rachel Atkinson, Therapy Coordinator

The pictures from the photo shoot are now on display at the service together with descriptions of the outfits and how much they cost. It has really boosted self-confidence with service users taking peers and staff members, visitors and family members to show their work.
