At Cygnet we #WearBecauseYouCare

At Cygnet we recently asked our staff to get involved in the Wear Because You Care campaign, a really quick, simple campaign to promote and share why it’s important to wear a face mask at our services.

Wearing a facemask is one of the most important things we can do to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We asked staff to send in photos sharing why they personally think it’s important to wear a facemask. Our Chief Operating Officer, Mike McQuaid, kicked off the campaign with the first image.

The response so far has been fantastic and we’ve received lots of great pictures from staff teams around the country promoting the use of facemasks. Here is a selection of just some of them (click on the images to enlarge).

Of course wearing a mask all day isn’t easy, especially for team members who have health problems of their own. Mark, a support worker at Cygnet Newham House, shares his story.

“I was rather anxious to be wearing masks due to having Asthma, as I tend to get hot really quickly wearing them. This in turn would make me panic, thinking it will bring on an attack.

“However after support from my Manager, Head of Care and co-workers I pushed myself to wear one. Yes I became hot, yes I became anxious but I persevered, drank plenty of fluids and had breaks with the mask off where it was safe to do so. Why wear? I think it’s super important, not only for myself, friends and family but also for my co-workers and our service users.”

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone for getting involved, showing their support and keeping up with wearing their masks.
