Alpaca Walking at Ellen Mhor

Some of the residents of Ellen Mhor, our specialist residential service with nursing, have recently been taking a walk on the wild side with alpacas in Dundee. Every Monday, residents from Ellen Mhor go out on a group outing to various sights & activities in the surrounding area and this was one activity that everybody had been waiting weeks for!

During their visit to Balnuith Rare Breeds Farm, Ellen Mhor residents got close up with some of the animals at the farm, including some rare Miniature Mediterranean Donkies, Falabella Miniature Horses, Poitou Donkeys, lamas and alpacas. Beth, a resident of Ellen Mhor since 2019, loves animals and jumped at the chance to come along to go to the farm and meet the alpacas.

Beth got a guided tour around the farm by Alison, the owner of the farm, who introduced all of the animals by name to Beth. Luckily for Beth, they arrived just in time for feeding time so Beth got a chance to feed the donkeys, sheep and alpacas, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

After the alpacas got called in from their field to have their lunch, served up excellently by Beth and Alison, everyone got introduced and acquainted to their walking buddy and then they all went for a walk around 15 acre farm with their alpaca friend. Beth loved taking her alpaca for a walk and even led the group around the farm.

Fred, the activity co-ordinator at the service, asked Beth later that day if she enjoyed her trip to Balnuith Rare Breeds Farm and asked her what her favourite animal was; she told him “It was fun. I fed all the animals! When are we going back? I liked the alpaca…..I took him for a walk”.
