Willow House

Gender: Mixed

Age: 18+

Beds: 8

Located within the community of Edgbaston, Birmingham, Willow House supports adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. The team can also support individuals who have associated mental and physical health needs, as well as those with behaviours that may challenge.

Willow House is a detached house with two comfy living areas, a dining room and a conservatory where individuals can have private time with their families, friends or other visitors. Everyone has their own en-suite bedroom, which they are encouraged to personalise and decorate to make their own. There is a life skills kitchen where residents can plan and cook meals for themselves and their visitors. Willow House also has a pretty garden with seating areas for relaxing outside with friends.

The team at Willow House aim to promote individuals’ independence. They do this by working closely with residents to ensure that their wishes, needs and interests are met. Willow House has monthly house meetings and residents have voted for one individual to be the activity leader, taking on the task of planning the social calendar. The service also has a dedicated activity coordinator who supports residents to have individual activity plans, based on each person’s likes and hobbies.

The activity coordinator leads monthly trips to local historic and cultural sights, which everyone enjoys. There are also frequent trips in to Birmingham city centre to visit shops, the large library, local museums and restaurants. Nearby Cadbury World is also very popular.

Individuals may come to Willow House for many reasons. They may be moving on from a hospital setting or may require a service which can support them more than a residential placement. It may be that they are leaving a residential or home setting and require a little support during a difficult period in their life, or they could be on a pathway to a place of their own.
